NODA Show Report by Les Smith regional representative

There is a saying in the theatre, never work with children or animals, well this show has both and it was great, the magical, musical story of Dorothy Gale who ends up in the mythical Land of Oz. Dorothy was played to perfection by Alexandra Myers on the night I saw it but as with most of the parts and the chorus two groups of children were used.

As Dorothy travels in her quest to find The Wizard of Oz she comes across the Scarecrow played by Thomas Hitchen, The Tin Man played by Harry Jessop and The Lion played by Jacob Whitehead, all these three should take a bow as they portrayed their respective roles very convincingly, they delivered their lines like true professionals and were able to keep their characters throughout the whole show. Dorothy of course would not be able to perform her part without Toto and he was played brilliantly by Fred, a small wire haired terrier who was never fazed by the audience and lights.

Other principal roles were played admirably by Victoria Price as Glynda who looked every bit the part, Danielle Charnley as the Wicked Witch who had a very evil wicked laugh; Natasha May was Aunty Em and James Cooper was Uncle Henry who despite being much smaller than his “wife” was able to put her and the others in their places.

Alex Csurko was in his own as The Wizard, especially when playing the travelling magician in the first half.

Mention must be made to the set design and construction team;this was great and totally fitted the bill.

Well done LYTE and LampLYTErs on a great show.
